What can Word to PDF do?

  • Works with DOC, DOCX, DOCM, DOT, DOTX, ODT, OTT, RTF and TXT files.
  • Headings become clickable bookmarks. Comments can be added as PDF notes.
  • Form fields stay fillable, or save as PDF/A-2b for archiving.
  • Merge several documents into one PDF in a single step.
  • Password-protected documents ask for the password. Macros are never run.
  • Fonts: Liberation, Carlito, Caladea, DejaVu and Noto are installed, so Arial, Times, Calibri and Cambria text keeps its spacing.

How do I convert Word to PDF?

To convert Word to PDF, add your DOCX or DOC file and select Convert to PDF; the PDF keeps your pages, fonts, images, tables, headers and footers. Conversion runs on our servers with LibreOffice, and metric-compatible fonts are installed so Arial, Times, Calibri and Cambria text keeps its spacing.

Which options can I change?

Under More options you can turn headings into clickable bookmarks, keep form fields fillable, include comments as PDF notes, or save as PDF/A-2b for archiving. Converting several documents? Turn on Merge all files into one PDF, or join PDFs later with Merge PDF.

Why save a Word document as PDF?

A PDF looks the same on every device and cannot be changed by accident, which makes it the usual format for CVs, contracts and reports. To go the other way and edit a PDF in Word, use PDF to Word.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert Word to PDF for free?

Yes. Word to PDF is free without an account, within the file size, page and daily task limits shown on the page. A free account raises those limits.

Will the PDF look the same as my Word document?

In most cases, yes. We use LibreOffice to lay out the pages, so documents with common fonts and standard features match closely. Unusual fonts are replaced by the closest installed font, which can shift line breaks slightly.

Can I convert DOC as well as DOCX files?

Yes. DOCX, DOC, DOCM, DOT, DOTX, RTF, TXT and OpenDocument ODT files are all accepted.

How are tracked changes and comments handled?

Tracked changes appear the way the document is set to show them, like the All markup view in Word, and we tell you on the result screen. Comments are added only if you turn on Include comments as PDF notes.

Can I convert a password-protected Word document?

Yes. Enter the password when asked. It is used only for this conversion and is not stored.

Is it safe to convert Word to PDF online?

Your documents are encrypted in transit and deleted from our servers automatically after 2 hours. You can also delete them straight away from the result screen, and macros are never run.
