Runs on your device — your files are not uploaded.
Free: files up to 200 MB, up to 50 files. No daily limit.
Alternate & mix combines PDFs by taking pages from each file in turn (page 1 of A, page 1 of B, and so on), which is how you rebuild a double-sided scan.
How to alternate and mix PDF pages in 3 steps
- 1
Choose two or more PDFs, or one PDF to mix its two halves.
- 2
Set how many pages to take from each file at a time, and reverse a file if needed.
- 3
Select Mix PDFs and download the combined PDF.
What can Alternate & mix do?
- Runs in your browser: your files never leave your device.
- Take 1, 2 or more pages at a time from each file.
- Reverse the order of any file.
- Preset for fronts and backs of a double-sided scan.
- If files differ in length, the extra pages are added at the end.
- Single-file mode mixes the first half with the second half.
How do I alternate pages from two PDFs?
Alternate & mix interleaves PDFs by taking pages from each file in turn, instead of putting one file after another as Merge PDF does. You can take more than one page per turn, for example two pages from each file, and reverse the page order of any file.
How do I rebuild a double-sided scan?
To rebuild a double-sided scan, mix the file of front sides with the file of back sides and reverse the backs. Collate scanned pages opens this tool with that preset ready. If your files have different lengths, the leftover pages are added at the end.
Can I mix pages within one file?
Yes: with a single file, Alternate & mix alternates the pages of its first half with those of its second half. This is the usual fix when you scanned the front sides first and the back sides after into one PDF.
All of this runs on your device, so the files are not uploaded. If a few pages still end up out of place, fix them in Organize pages.
Frequently asked questions
How do I interleave pages from two PDFs?
Add both PDFs to Alternate & mix and select Mix PDFs. You get page 1 of A, page 1 of B, page 2 of A, and so on, in one new PDF.
How do I merge odd and even pages into one PDF?
Put the file with the odd pages first and the file with the even pages second, then select Mix PDFs. If the even pages were scanned last page first, reverse that file's pages, or use Collate scanned pages.
What if the files have different page counts?
The remaining pages of the longer file are added at the end.
Can I take two pages from each file at a time?
Yes. Set the number of pages to take per turn for each file.
Can I mix the pages of a single PDF?
Yes. Single-file mode treats the first half as fronts and the second half as backs, and takes pages from each half in turn.
Are my files uploaded when I alternate and mix PDF pages?
No. This tool runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share the result or save it to a cloud drive.
