Smart split is a planned AI tool to split a PDF by topic or document type, finding where each invoice, contract or letter starts. It is not available yet; today, use Split PDF by text or by bookmarks.

What can Smart split do?

- Split by bookmarks cuts at the chapters your PDF already defines.

- Bookmarks, Size and Text run on our servers, and files are deleted after 2 hours.
Is Smart split available yet?
No: Smart split, which will propose where one document ends and the next begins and let you review the parts before saving, is planned for a later release. Until then, the regular Split PDF modes cover most jobs.
How do I split a PDF by document today?
To split a batch of invoices, letters or statements today, open Split PDF by text and draw a box around the value that changes, such as an invoice number. Each new value starts a new file, and the files are named after the value.
How do I split a PDF by chapter or section?
If your PDF has bookmarks, Split PDF by bookmarks creates one file per chapter at the level you choose. Without bookmarks, Split PDF can cut at the page ranges you type.

Can I split a PDF by topic or document type?
Not automatically yet. Smart split, which will detect where each document or topic starts, is planned for a later release; today Split PDF by text and Split PDF by bookmarks cover most of these jobs.
When will the AI PDF splitter be available?
It is planned for a later release. We will announce it on this page once it is ready.
How do I split a batch of invoices today?
Use Split PDF by text. Draw a box around the invoice number, and a new file starts each time the number changes. Scanned pages need OCR first so the number is real text.
Will Smart split be free?
AI features will use credits. The page, bookmark, size, text and in-half modes stay available as they are.
Are my files used to train anything?
No. Files processed on our servers are deleted automatically after 2 hours, and the Pages and In half modes never upload your file at all.
