or drop files here

Runs on your device — your files are not uploaded.

Free: files up to 200 MB, up to 50 files. No daily limit.

To add margins to a PDF, open it in Add margins to PDF and set the white space for each side in mm or inches. The page size stays the same and your content is scaled down to fit inside the margins.

How to add margins to a PDF in 3 steps

  1. 1

Choose your PDF file, or drop it on the page.

  2. 2

Enter the top, right, bottom and left margins in mm or inches, or one value for all sides.

  3. 3

Select Resize pages and download the result.

What can Add margins to PDF do?

  • Runs in your browser: your files never leave your device.
  • Set top, right, bottom and left margins separately.
  • Or use one value for all four sides.
  • Millimetres or inches.
  • Page size stays the same: content is shrunk to fit inside the margins.
  • Mode of Resize pages, so its page range options apply.

How do I add white space around PDF pages?

Add margins to PDF puts white space around the content of every page without changing the page size. A page that runs to the edge can be hard to punch, bind or write on, and some printers clip the edges.

How is the content adjusted?

To make room for the margins, the content is scaled down to fit inside them, so everything ends up slightly smaller than before. A margin of 10 mm on every side of an A4 page leaves a printable area of 190 by 277 mm.

Can I add margins to only some pages?

Yes: this is a mode of Resize pages, so you can apply the margins to all pages, odd pages, even pages or a range. Use odd and even separately if the binding side alternates.

Processing happens in your browser, so your file is not uploaded. To remove white margins instead, use Crop PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add margins to a PDF?

Enter the margin for each side, or one value for all sides, in millimetres or inches, then select Resize pages. The default is 10 mm on every side.

Does adding margins make the page bigger?

No. The page stays the same size and the content is scaled down to fit inside the new margins.

How do I add white space to a PDF for binding?

Set a larger margin on the binding side. If the binding side alternates, apply one setting to odd pages and another to even pages in two separate runs.

Can I add different margins to the left and right?

Yes. Turn off Same on all sides and set each side on its own.

Is the text still sharp after adding margins?

Yes. Text and vector content are scaled, not turned into images.

Are my files uploaded when I add margins to a PDF?

No. This tool runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share the result or save it to a cloud drive.
